On June 27 and 28, the Valencian event of the Mediterranean Triathlon circuit will not be another edition. For the first time, triathlon enters the official program of the Gay Games XII Valencia 2026, the event that for eight days will turn the city into the world capital of inclusive sport.
For those who have already raced in MTRI, the scenery of the Malvarrosa will be familiar: swimming in the sea, cycling along the great avenues, the race along the promenade. The path does not change. What changes is everything else. Athletes from dozens of countries, opening and closing ceremonies, 39 parallel sports disciplines, festivals, the International Rainbow Memorial Run... The sprint and Olympic starts and qualifiers will continue to work as in any race on the circuit, but the context is different. MTRI Valencia 2026 will have an exterior projection that few triathlon events in Spain can boast.
Castellón closes the year, again
A week later, on July 4 and 5, Castellón repeated as the final venue of the ranking. It was already in 2025, and that edition left the best growth numbers of the circuit: about 1,400 registered, 2% international participation and the Community of Madrid as the second autonomy in the presence of triathletes, only behind the Valencian. Not bad for a test that takes a short time on that closing paper.
The organization is betting that the pull of the Gay Games in Valencia will also drag towards Castellón. It makes sense: those who travel from abroad for the week of June 27 can perfectly stay seven more days and finish the season on the Castellón coast.
The circuit, in numbers
With Alicante already open and underway since May, the Mediterranean Triathlon 2026 route is concentrated in just ten weeks, from May to July. At the end of February, the circuit accumulated 1,304 active registrations, a figure that comes before Valencia and Castellón open their promotional prices in the coming hours.
